There is still one $1,000 full-ride scholarship available for a budding paleontologist in Kansas interested in attending a camp to excavate a mosasaur fossil.
Although Sternberg Museum of Natural History is offering camps for all ages this summer, education director David Levering said this particular camp and scholarship is for high-schoolers.
Levering said the first week will be in the field excavating the fossil.
“It is hot, hard work and not for the faint of heart,” he said.
The second week of camp will be spent at the museum’s lab for the “academic portion” of the camp, where campers get the chance to work on fossil preparation and collection management.
Levering said the camp is a “great program for kids who are very interested in life sciences.”
The camp is July 13 to 23.
Levering said Sternberg is providing all supplies, including sleeping bags and field work equipment.
