A western Kansas man was injured Saturday afternoon when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a wheat truck east of Hays.
According to Ellis County Sheriff Ed Harbin, at about 4:25 p.m. Saturday a 2014 Harley Davidson driven by Craig Knapp, Norton, was eastbound on Old U.S. 40. Knapp passed a vehicle and struck a 1975 Chevrolet wheat truck that was making a left turn into the Midland Marketing’s Toulon elevator.
Harbin said Knapp apparently did not know the truck was turning when he passed a vehicle behind the truck.
Knapp was transported to Hays Medical Center for treatment.
As harvest picks up across the area, Harbin said this is a good opportunity to remind motorists to use caution.
“Be mindful that they will be out there. They’ll be going slow,” he said. “Always use caution, any time you are passing some kind of farm machinery.”
