Two arrested on suspicion of meth distribution at Salina motel

SALINA — Two people were arrested Friday morning after the I-135/I-70 Drug Task Force recovered a large amount of methamphetamine from a room at a Salina motel.

Task Force Commander Capt. Jim Norton said officers were conducting a motel interdiction at the Howard Johnson’s, 222 E. Diamond Drive, when they noticed a activity and people coming and going to one room.

About 7:30 a.m.,officers knocked on the door of the room and, when it was opened, they reported a strong odor of marijuana, and saw drug paraphernalia in plain view.

After obtaining a search warrant, approximately 7-ounces of methamphetamine with a street value of $17,100 was recovered, along with $2,246 in drug proceeds.

Arrested on several drug allegations. including possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, were Edgar Ascencio, 28, and Kelsie Maholland, 27, both of Salina.

Norton said no further arrests are expected in the case.
