For the first time at the Hays Police Department, the position of corporal has been created to “lead and mentor” younger officers, according to Police Chief Don Scheibler.
He said the four officers promoted to the rank of corporal have all demonstrated “a leadership role within the department.”
Scheibler said the realignment “will allow for more supervision for the officers on the street.”
He added he was happy all 10 officers who could apply for the corporal position did.
“It is nice to know they were all ready to step up,” he said.
The four officers promoted to corporal are Harold Anderson, Brandon Hauptman, Chris Hancock and David Vilaysing. As part of the move, J.B. Burkholder will move to the plainclothes investigation unit.
