Larks collect 15 hits in non-league win over Boulder

The Hays Larks turned to an old veteran to get their five-game homestand off to a good start. Former Hays High Indian, Fort Hays State Tiger and Hays Lark Landon Harper allowed one run over six innings and picks up the win in the Larks 6-1 non-league victory over the Boulder Collegians Thursday night at Larks Park. Pitching for the first time in over four years, Harper struck out three and walked only one.

One night after gathering a season-high 21 hits in a win at Dodge City, the Larks pound out 15 against the Collegians, who have now lost five straight following a 10-game win streak. Center fielder Michael Burns had four of them, driving in two. Cooper Langley had his second straight three-hit night and left fielder Evan Gruener had his best game of the season, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored he also threw a runner out at second and robbed another of extra bases with a diving catch along the left field foul line.

The Larks improve to 12-8 heading into a key three-game weekend series with El Dorado starting tonight. The Broncos sit in fifth place in the Jayhawk League at 7-10 overall and 5-10 in league play.

7pm start for all three games this weekend. Admission is free thanks to Nex-Tech on Friday, M&D Incorporated and Eagle Communications on Saturdays and the VFW and Kiwanis Club on Sunday.

Saturday night is Larkstoberfest and Old Timer’s Night with german food and a polka band on hand during the pregame festivities. Sunday is Military Appreciation Night will all active military members as well as veterans encouraged to attend and be honored before the game.
