Two dead in fiery plane crash at Loveland Ski Area

GEORGETOWN, Colo. (AP) — Two people are dead after their small plane crashed into a slope at the Loveland Ski Area.

The single-engine plane crashed and burst into flames Monday morning, setting off a small wildfire that was quickly contained.

Capt. Randy Long of the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office says a witness said the plane was trying to cross the Continental Divide and tried to turn around when it appeared it didn’t have enough power to clear the mountains. It then crashed near a ski lift.

The plane’s identification numbers were destroyed in the fire and authorities don’t have any details yet about where it was headed.
