EL DORADO, Kan. (AP) — A southern Kansas marina heavily damaged by a wind storm last year is back open for business in time for the Fourth of July weekend.
Shady Creek Marina is located at El Dorado (doh-RAY’-doh) State Park. The storm last August largely spared the park but caused extensive damage to the marina’s walkway and floating office.
KAKE-TV reports the repairs cost nearly $500,000. Manager Cindy Haled says the work included fixing the docks and stabilizing them with cables to reduce the chance that they’ll break away in violent weather.
Last year’s storm also damaged several boats and caused a fuel spill when lines running from the shore to pumps at the marina broke.
