Teenager hospitalized after SUV struck by semi

CHERRYVALE — A teenage driver was injured in an accident just after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday  in Montgomery County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2001 Ford Explorer driven by Cantinia Marie Cannon, 17, Cherryvale, was westbound on south Main Street at U.S. 169.

The driver’s view was blocked due to another vehicle. The Explorer proceeded into the intersection and was struck by a Peterbilt semi. The Explorer slid off the roadway and into the ditch.

Cannon was transported to Wesley Medical Center for treatment. The semi driver, Ryan Earl Brown, 30, Blackwell, Okla., was not injured.

The KHP reported Cannon was properly restrained at the time of the accident.
