The Hays Larks could not overcome seven errors and a rough night offensively as they drop the series opener on the road in Wellington Sunday night 9-0.
The Larks offense was held to just six hits and they got just two runners to second base and grounded into three double plays in the loss.
Hays starter Jake Fromson allowed six runs; four earned on seven hits over six innings and suffered the loss.
Tyler Detmer and Michael Burns had two hits each for the Larks who drop to 20-12 overall and 14-12 in the Jayhawk League.
The two teams will play game two of their three-game series in Wellington Tuesday night.
