One Hays teenager sustained minor injuries to her hand after the vehicle she was riding in with two other teenagers rolled “multiple times” early Wednesday morning.

The accident was reported at 1:12 a.m. on the 1300 block of Spring Hill Road.

According to Ellis County Sheriff Ed Harbin, the driver of the vehicle, the older sister of one of the youth, swerved to miss hitting a deer and lost control of the vehicle.

Other occupants in the car were a 15 year-old female, 14-year-old female and a 14-year-old male.

Harbin urged parents to try to know where their kids are at all times.

“(Parents) can’t be looking over their (children’s) shoulder all the time, but have a talk with your kids because unlike TV and movies, when these kids are out and get in an accident or something, it could (affect) them forever,” Harbin said.

Harbin said no drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident and no charges have been filed.
