Hays Eagles on to AAA state championship game

The Hays Eagles rallied from a four-run deficit Friday night for a 9-4 win over Pittsburg Post 64 to advance back to the “AAA” Kansas American Legion Championship game.

Pittsburg opened the game with three runs in the top of the first and one more in the second to go up 4-0.

The Eagles were held scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when they plated three runs cutting the lead to 4-3.

In the three run fourth Zack Legleiter singled with two outs and came around to score on an error by the right fielder. Connor Rule singled and scored and Kade Parker singled home a run and the scored on a wild pitch.

Trailing 4-3 in the bottom fifth the Eagles added a run two runs to go up 5-4.

Hays scored one more in the seven and blew it open with three in the eighth on their way to a 9-4 win.

Cole Schumacher earned the win; he allowed four runs, three earned in a complete game victory. He struck out seven and walked two.

Zack Legleitler was 4-for-5 with four RBI’s and Kade Parker and Connor Rule each finished 1-for-4 with an RBI.

The win moved Hays to 33-8 on the summer and they will play in Saturday’s championship game at 3p.m.
