The Reverend Steve S. Burkholder, 66, of Augusta, KS, went to be with his Heavenly Father Wednesday, July 30, 2014.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, August 2, 2014, at Headley Funeral Chapel, 813 State Street in Augusta, KS. Also a graveside service will be held in Plainville, KS, at 1 p.m. Monday August 4.
Steve was born on September 27, 1947, in Denver, Colorado, to Doris (Sherratt) Burkholder of Hays, KS, and the late C.R. (Bob) Burkholder. Steve was an ordained minister for more than 36 years. He believed in preaching the true message of the cross. His many talents included landscaping, singing and playing guitar with his wife of 43 years Donna (Messer) Burkholder and their children.
They had a gospel quartet with singing ministry with Donna’s parents. In his early years, he worked as a butcher at Burks Market located in Plainville, Kansas. He also loved to work with his father-in-law building signs.
Survivors include: his 97-year-old mother, Doris (Sherratt) Burkholder living in Hays, KS, and brothers Robert Burkholder and wife Michael of Rio Rancho, New Mexico and Bruce Burkholder of Hays, Kansas; son, Jim Burkholder and wife Gayla of Olathe, Colorado, and daughter, Hayley Hummel and husband Jeff of Tulsa, Oklahoma; other survivors include 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 5 nieces and many longtime friends.
