Local Girl Scouts will be having a blast with their friends and welcoming new girls to their troops during events in western Kansas, starting Aug 8 with a Back-to-School Bash in Ellis. The fun continues with events in Colby, Hill City, St. John, Norton, Oakley and Goodland, and even a “Rodeo Roundup” in Hays. There will also be exciting events for girls in La Crosse, Great Bend, Ness City, Larned and Stockton, where the community will have fun “Grilling Up a Great Time with Scouts.” Click the IMAGE for the complete schedule.
These events are a great opportunity to join the fun and excitement in Girl Scouting, which builds girls of courage, confidence and character Not currently a Girl Scout? Don’t worry – all of these special events are open to all girls, and adults are encouraged to accompany their daughters.
In Girl Scouts, the all-inclusive leadership development organization for girls, members discover the fun, friendship and power of girls together. Through a myriad of enriching experiences – including extraordinary field trips, sports skill-building clinics, community service projects, cultural exchanges and environmental stewardships – girls grow courageous and strong.
Girl Scouts has played a pivotal role of women’s history, as more than 59 million American women enjoyed Girl Scouting during their childhood – or approximately one in every two adult women in the U.S. Research affirms the lifetime benefits of participating in Girl Scouting, as alumnae go on to become leaders in their communities and the world. Girl Scout alumnae report a significantly higher household income ($51,700) than non-alumnae ($42,200). Of Girl Scout alumnae who are mothers, 66 percent have been a mentor/volunteer in their child’s youth organization, compared to 48 percent of non-alumnae mothers.
To help ensure the overwhelming benefits of Girl Scouting continue, Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland is seeking dedicated volunteers who want to help instill courage, confidence and character in girls in their community. There are volunteer opportunities to fit any schedule, from helping with a single event to leading a troop of girls.
