Russell county officials will host a groundbreaking ceremony Monday, August 18, for the upcoming expansion of the Russell County Courthouse.
The ceremony is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on the courthouse lawn, 401 N. Main, Russell.
A new addition will be built on the north side of the current courthouse and a new parking lot will be added on the south side of the courthouse. The public is invited to attend.
Part of the project will include bringing courthouse restrooms into ADA compliance. None of the existing restrooms meet requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Some areas of the courthouse will also be upgraded to meet current fire codes.
Quinter Manufacturing and Construction, Quinter, was awarded the construction bid for the courthouse addition and remodel at the August 4 county commission meeting.
The winning bid was $3,548,000.
Project architect is Jones Gillam Renz Architects of Salina.
