SABETHA — Police in Sabetha are seeking help from the public in finding a man wanted for questioning in a sexual assault investigation. Authorities believe William Vogel may be hitchhiking or asking for rides because he’s not believed to have his own transportation.

In an update Tuesday, Sabetha Police Chief Robert Wahwasuck said his department has received unconfirmed reports from residents who claim to have seen the suspect, so Vogel could still be in the area.

“Vogel’s whereabouts are still unknown at this time,” Wahwasuck said in a news release.

“It is believed that Vogel is not in the Sabetha area but may still be hiding out in northeast Kansas,” he said. “Investigation thus far has indicated that Vogel may be trying to get to Florida, Texas or Illinois.

Wahwasuck describes Vogel as 6 foot, two inches, 280 pounds, with brown eyes, and brown but mostly gray hair. Anyone with information in the case is asked to call (785)284-2158.
