The Hays Police Department is participating in the “You Drink and Drive. You Lose” campaign today through Sept. 1 as part of the Special Traffic Enforcement Program, otherwise known as STEP.

According to Chief Don Scheibler, the department will conduct saturation patrols in specific areas in Hays on the lookout for impaired drivers.

He noted the department is always on the lookout for impaired drivers but during campaigns such as “You Drink and Drive. You Lose,” extra patrols are able to participate due to a grant from STEP. 

Scheibler said the department will also set up a DUI checklane to be announced at a later date.
