Salina Police make arrest in reports of shots fired UPDATE

SALINA — At approximately  9 a.m., officers from the Salina Police Department were sent to a Crescent address reference a domestic violence call.  It was reported that shots may have been fired.

Upon arrival, they located a woman, 61 years old, outside the residence bleeding in the facial area.  She was taken to an ambulance for her injuries.

As a precaution,USD 305, placed the Schilling Elementary School,3121 Canterbury, on heightened security.  The officers entered the residence and did not locate the suspect,Christopher Walters, 52 years old.  No firearms were found nor any evidence that a firearm had been discharged.  The woman was transported to the Salina Regional Health Center, 400 S. Santa Fe, and treated for facial fractures and a brain bleed; she will remain at the hospital for observation.

At approximately 12:45 p.m.,Walters was located sleeping under a dump truck in the area of Derby and Foxsboro.  He was arrested and charges of Aggravated Battery and Criminal Threat are being requested.

UPDATE – 11:30  a.m.  Police in Salina continue to look for a suspect involved in a domestic incident in the 1300 Block of Crescent Drive.

The suspect reportedly has weapons including knives and possibly guns. The Schilling Elementary School nearby remains on heightened security due to the incident.

SALINA — Law enforcement authorities in Salina are investigating a report of shots fired in the vicinity of Schilling and Crescent Drive.

Police are currently at the scene. Schools in the vicinity are now on lock down.

In an email, Schilling Elementary reported ” The school is on heightened security but business continues as usual within the building.”

The incident occurred in the 1300 block of Crescent.
