Workshop will focus on preventing financial abuse of seniors

LAWRENCE — Financial abuse and exploitation of older adults is an increasingly common event. While this type of crime is on the rise, individuals can make decisions and create safeguards that offer protection for you, a loved one or a client.

Kansas Advocates for Better Care

On Wednesday, Sept. 3 at Sternberg Museum of Natural History, experts will share their advice on preventing financial abuse. There will be two sessions: 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Panel members include:
• Evie Curtis, financial professional and Kansas Advocates for Better Care volunteer
• Velvet Unrein, Regional Long-Term Care Ombudsman
• Local law enforcement
• Local adult protective services representative
• Local banking officer

Members of the public, older adults and caregivers are encouraged to attend. The question-and-answer session is free.
