California man indicted in northwest Kansas meth case

WICHITA — A California man has been indicted in federal court for an incident alleged to have occurred in Sherman County earlier this month.

According to a news release from the office of U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom, Hector Manuel Briceno, 25, Paramount, Calif., has been charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and one count of interstate travel in furtherance of drug trafficking.

The crimes are alleged to have occurred Aug. 17 in Sherman County.

If convicted, Briceno faces a penalty of not less than 10 years and fine up to $4 million on the possession charge, and a maximum penalty of 5 years and a fine up to $250,000 on the other count.

The Drug Enforcement Administration investigated. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michelle Jacobs is prosecuting.
