Greg Sund, a member of the Hays Toastmasters Club, recently earned his Distinguished Toastmaster Award, the highest achievement for members of Toastmasters International, the global organization of local clubs that provide an environment for members to improve public speaking and leadership skills.

“The communication and leadership skills I have acquired through Toastmasters have helped me over the years as a person and as a professional in overcoming the challenges that you inevitably meet along the way,” Sund said.

“Plus,” he said, “Toastmasters means doing interesting, rewarding things and having fun doing them.”

Sund, Ellis County administrator, has been a member of eight Toastmasters Clubs since first joining in January 1987. In order to earn this award, he completed his Competent Communicator Award, Advanced Toastmaster Bronze, Advanced Communicator Silver, Advanced Communicator Gold, Competent Leader, and Advanced Leader Silver. In addition, he had to conduct a High Performance Leadership project, the focus of which was promoting Toastmasters in Hays.

He has also served Toastmasters in nearly all the local officer positions, several of them multiple times, including area governor, and division governor.

Hays Toastmasters, formed in 1958, meets at noon on the first and third Wednesday of each month at Thirsty’s Brew Pub and Grill, 2704 Vine.
