Proposed recycling center off Hays zoning board’s agenda

A proposed recycling facility at the southwest corner of 13th Street and General Custer has been at least temporarily shelved.

A public hearing on the requested special-use permit required to operate such a facility has been canceled by the Hays Area Zoning Board of Appeals.

“Upon review of the application by staff, it was determined that the application for a special-use permit for a scrap processing yard submitted by F & F Iron and Metal did not meet the specific location conditions of the adopted zoning regulations,” Jesse Rohr, superintendent of planning, inspection and enforcement told Hays Post on Friday.

Rohr said the city staff will continue to work with F & F if they choose to reapply, but said the public hearing has not been rescheduled.
