Hays High School staff and students are wondering if enough money will be raised in time for Principal Martin Straub to be “dumped on” Friday.
With just a few days to go, the Hays High School student body is at the halfway point to reaching Principal Martin Straub’s challenge to raise $1,000 by Friday in order for him to take part in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
According to Straub, the students and staff had raised $503 as of Tuesday evening.
Straub and his staff were challenged on the front lawn of Hays High School Friday by the Hays Police Department as the 21 officers took their ALS challenge from the Hays Fire Department.

Straub opted out of the challenge and instead wrote a check for $100 to go toward the ALS Association, vowing he and his staff would take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge only if the student body raised $1,000.
“To be honest, I am not crazy about being dumped on,” Straub said Friday. “We will gladly do it, because of the cause, not because of the cold.”
If the money is raised by Friday morning, Straub said he and his staff will take the challenge that morning at 11:10 a.m. outside the school.
Hays High alumni and the community can help the student body raise the money by stopping by HHS at 2300 E 13th or by calling (785) 623-2600.
The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is a fundraiser for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
