Two from Hays hospitalized after I-70 construction zone accident

TOPEKA- Two children from Hays were injured in an accident just after 6:45 p.m. on Friday in Shawnee County

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2007 GMC Denali driven by Cecil Hoffman, 68, Abilene, was eastbound on Interstate 70 five miles west of Topeka. The vehicle failed to slow in a construction zone and rear-ended a 2002 Honda Civic driven by Carolyn Sievers, 69, Hays.

Two passengers in the Honda Sage Nuss, 15, and Mercedes Nuss, 12, both of Hays were transported to Stormont Vail. Sievers, Hoffman and a passenger in the GMC were not injured.

The KHP reported all were properly restrained at the time of the accident.
