USD 489 board will tour Hays Middle School, discuss busing

The Hays USD 489 Board of Education will meet for a tour of Hays Middle School at 6 p.m. Monday, with a work session to follow.

On the agenda for the work session are busing options and after-school transport of HMS students. The district’s transportation direction, Russ Henningsen, and Superintendent Dean Katt will lead the discussion.

The board also will review financial information, as well as the five-year expense comparison, and also hear an update on the potential restructuring of the district’s purchasing policies.

According to the Sept. 18 regular session agenda, the school board will:

• Consider the appointment of Cheryl Shubert as interim board secretary, following the recent resignation of Elizabeth Jaeger.

• Hear from the facilities needs committee regarding the group’s recommendations on long-term building plans for the district.

• Hear a presentation from O’Loughlin Elementary School’s Nancy Harman and Terri Tramel regarding the school’s “walking school bus” program.

• Review information and statistics regarding ACT scores from a national, state and local level.
