The Fort Hays State University shooting team started the season off strong at a meet at the Wichita State Shocker Classic, which was Sept. 6 and 7 in Valley Center.

It was the first year of the event for the new Wichita State shooting team and included 12 collegiate teams and 105 participants, according to Dr. Duane Shepherd, FHSU shooting coach.

This year’s FHSU team this year consists of 10 returning members and five freshman. They have been practicing for approximately two weeks shooting new events and establishing squad assignments.

“For the first event of the year, as a group, the team shot well with event wins and several outstanding individual efforts,” Shepherd said.

The next event for the team will be the annual FHSU collegiate event Sept. 20 and 21.
