Storms rolled across Kansas Tuesday evening bringing numerous reports of damaging winds and some 1-inch hail reported in Jewell County.

The hail was short-lived in Hays, which saw reports of up to 1.2 inches of rain, according to early reports. The most significant rainfall reported was south of Victoria, with a gauge reading of 1.6 inches.

Across northwest Kansas, southwest Russell County reported the most rain, just more than 2 inches.

Scott County reported winds over 90 mph, and gusts of over 70 mph were recorded in portions of Russell, Gove and Barton County. Power lines and trees were down in a rural area northwest of Hoisington.

Ness County had gusts of 65 mph.

In Hays, there was a short power outage that Midwest Energy officials believes was caused by a lightning strike. Power was down for about 3 minutes at approximately 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, Midwest reported.

The wind is expected to persist Wednesday, and the cold front is expected to keep the high temperature below 70. Lows of below 50 are predicted tonight.
