Hays Fire Department

Firefighters from the Ellis County Rural Fire Department and the cities of Ellis, Hays and Victoria will be participating in firefighter skills training from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The training will be conducted at the NCK Tech Big Creek campus at 101 Main in Hays.

Presented by the University of Kansas Fire and Rescue Training Institute, the training covers the skills needed by firefighters to force entry into locked buildings, open up walls, ceilings and roofs to find and extinguish hidden fires and to work with automatic fire sprinkler systems.

The training is provided using a 50-foot-long trailer specially equipped with an array of training devices and props. This is part of the University of Kansas’ fire academy on wheel program to bring fire training to firefighters throughout the state.
