Hays Medical Center
The Dreiling/Schmidt Cancer Institute at HaysMed is providing a new Meditation and Relaxation Group for anyone who has been diagnosed with or has finished treatment for cancer.
The group will meet on the second Wednesday of the month from 6 to 7:30 p.m. starting Oct. 8. The sessions will be held at the Dreiling Schmidt Cancer Institute, 2220 Canterbury.
Facilitator for the sessions is Camille Ellard, a licensed social worker with the Dreiling/Schmidt Cancer Institute. The new group is a result of the positive response received after Ellard conducted a session at a recent breast cancer retreat.
“People seemed to feel a lot of relief from the session,” said Ellard said. “They asked me if I would lead a group that met regularly.”
She noted this type of therapy is very popular in cancer settings and data shows regular participation in meditation and relaxation results in a decrease in stress levels.
The session are free.
