
SALINA- A high speed chase and a search involving a K-9 unit and a law enforcement airplane led to the arrest of two Salina men Tuesday night.
Salina Police Captain Mike Sweeney said an officer on routine patrol was going to check a Cadillac in the 1100 block of Apache in Salina.
The car with two occupants took off at a high rate of speed.
The officer followed the car and the chase reached speeds of 70 miles-per-hour on several residential streets. The officer was not able to catch the suspects.
A short time later, the car was located in the 600 block of Whittinghill, stopped in the middle of the street still running. Both suspects were gone.
Police, Saline County Sheriff’s Deputies, and the Kansas Highway Patrol established a perimeter and began looking for the suspects.
A deputy briefly spotted Dustin Reavis, 33, run into the K-Mart at 400 S. Broadway and out the back door.
The police dog found Boyd Hatfield, 44, in a construction trailer in the area of K-Mart.
The airplane ultimately spotted Reavis near the Econolodge Motel on Westport Blvd. He was hiding in the ceiling of the poolroom.
Reavis was arrested on requested charges of aggravated burglary,criminal damage to property, two counts of criminal trespass; interference with a law enforcement officer; felony obstruction, possession of hallucinogenic drugs, and felony theft. He is also wanted on federal warrants.
Hatfield was booked into jail on requested charges of driving while suspended, fleeing or eluding law enforcement with five or more moving violations, Interference with law enforcement, felony obstruction and other charges. The Cadillac was stolen.
