WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett plans to update the public on the investigation into the 2012 fatal police shooting of an unarmed Wichita man.
Bennett is also expected to talk to reporters on Friday about the investigation process in officer-involved shootings.
Twenty-four-year-old Troy Lanning II was shot six times by an officer who was chasing him as he ran from a stolen vehicle.
Lanning’s family has filed a federal lawsuit over the death. An attorney for the officer contends the officer feared for his life because Lanning ignored police commands and was holding a bag he believed contained a handgun.
