Ellis County Sheriff’s Department
Beginning Friday, the Ellis County jail will be located at 3000 New Way, just off Commerce Parkway south of Old U.S. 40. The relocation is part of the renovation and upgrade of the Ellis County Courthouse and Law Enforcement Center.
The jail in this facility will consist only of holding cells until an inmate is transferred to another facility should they not be released by either the court or bond officer after a two- to three-hour period.
To bond an individual out, contact the jail facility by the phone located on the front door of the building or you may call the jail number with your personal phone. All phone numbers will remain the same — (785) 625-1040 for the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office and (785) 625-1050 for the jail. The mailing address also will remain the same — 1205 Fort St., Hays, KS 67601.
Fingerprinting for concealed carry applications, school or employment now will be done in the Court Service Office, located at 1205 Fort, beginning Monday from 4 to 5 p.m.
The sheriff’s office will be closed on Dec. 4 and 5 so employees can begin to move to the 3000 New Way location. The office will reopen for normal business Dec. 8.
“We are sorry for the inconvenience, but due to the remodeling of the Law Enforcement Center, this is necessary,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release. “We hope to be back at our normal location within one year.”
