After a couple of inches of snow and cold weather hit the Hays area, several flights have been canceled in and out of Hays Regional Airport. But, according to Airport Manager Nathan Marcucci, the airport has remained “open for business.”
According to an email Marcucci received from United, which operates SkyWest flights, the recent cold weather across the country has limited United’s services, specifically its air traffic control operations.
“The cold temperatures have limited United Airlines and other airports abilities in snow and ice removal, which overall have slowed the operation and the handling of flights, making it necessary to thin the flight schedule,” Marcucci was informed.
Wednesday flights from Hays to Denver have been canceled due to air traffic control issues, but there are flights scheduled for Thursday. Wednesday morning’s flight from Denver to Hays was canceled but the afternoon flight was still scheduled as of mid-morning.
Both flights from Denver to Hays are still scheduled for Thursday, as well.
