Lady Tigers hold off Southern second half rally for 10th straight win

Fort Hays State used an early 18-0 run to take control and defeats No. 22 Missouri Southern 89-70 Saturday afternoon at Gross Coliseum. FHSU has now won 10-straight and improves to 11-1 overall and 4-0 in the MIAA. The Lions have dropped three straight and are now 8-3 overall and 2-2 in the MIAA.

FHSU led by 23 at the half and by as many as 25 early in the second half before MSSU responded with an 11-0 run to pull within 13. The Lady Tigers answer with a 17-8 run and never led by less than 15 the rest of the way.

Kate Lehman scored 20 in the first half and led the Lady Tigers with a season-high 31 points and moves into fifth on the Tigers all-time scoring list with 1,529 career points. Chelsea Mason added 15, 13 of them in the second half.

FHSU shot 51-percent from the floor including 8-of-19 from beyond the arc. Southern hit 26-of-27 from the free throw line and was led by Nic Hartzog’s 23 points.

FHSU is back at home Monday night against Southwest Baptist at 5:30pm.
