Helen Catherine Schuler, age 88, passed away at the Good Samaritan Center, Dodge City, Kansas on January 10, 2015. She was born on the farm near Arnold, Kansas on November 2, 1926 the daughter of Godfrey and Catherine Weber Flax.
She was a homemaker in her own home and also helped other people take care of their homes. She waited tables for two restaurants in Ness City, Balloon’s West and Saddle-Up. After she completed her Certified Nurse’s Aide training she worked in the Ness County Hospital and as a home health aide. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and the Altar Society, both of Ness City.
On May 11, 1948 she married Raymond Joseph Schuler in Ransom, Kansas. He preceded her in death on March 6, 2008.
Helen is survived by four sons, Darryl Schuler and his wife, Judy, Ellis, Kansas, Fr. Stephen Schuler, SVD, Bordentown, New Jersey, Allen Schuler and his wife, Vicki, Ness City, and Myron Schuler and his wife, Dreama, Tampa, Florida; three brothers, Lawrence Flax and his wife, Betty, Dodge City, Kansas, Fr. Myron Flax, Victoria, Kansas, and Leonard Flax and his wife, Irene, Wright, Kansas; one sister, Sister Mary Ann Flax, Lexington, Nebraska; 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 59 years; her daughter, Janice Jones; three brothers, Eugene, Ignatius, and Herman Flax; and one sister, Rosie Flax.
Friends may call at Fitzgerald Funeral Home on Tuesday from 3:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. and on Wednesday from 9:00 A.M. until 2:30 P.M..
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, January 15, 2015, 11:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Church, Ness City with burial following in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Rosary and Parish vigil are tentatively planned for Wednesday evening, beginning at 6:30 at Sacred Heart Church, Ness City.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Sacred Heart Church, Sacred Heart School or for Masses.
