LINCOLN, Kan. (AP) — The Lincoln County Attorney says the son of a Kansas sheriff has been sentenced to nearly 10 years in prison in a 2013 fatal shooting.
A jury in November convicted 34-year-old Scott Weigel of second-degree murder in the September 2013 shooting death of 21-year-old Keith Ancell.
Authorities say the shooting occurred in downtown Lincoln after a night of drinking and socializing. Prosecutors say Ancell was shot when he refused to get in a vehicle with friends because Weigel was pointing a gun at him.
Weigel is the son of Lincoln County Sheriff Mike Weigel.
The Salina Journal reports Scott Weigel will receive credit for the 490 days he’s served in jail since the shooting.
