The Kansas Aqueduct Committee will meet Wednesday, January 21, at the NRCS Conference Center, 747 Duvall in Salina, at 10 a.m.

The main purpose of the committee is to help oversee the update of the 1982 Corps Study that evaluated the transfer of supplemental water to replace the depleting supply from the Ogallala aquifer.

A Kansas Aqueduct Study is underway to update and evaluate the technical, legal political, financial and other aspects of a concept developed in 1982 to divert Missouri River flows to western Kansas. This concept was conceived by the U.S. Department of Commerce to evaluate a water transfer element (aqueduct) that would replace depleting irrigation water from the Ogallala Aquifer with available renewable surface water.

Through the Corps planning assistance cost-share program, an update to the 1982 study has begun. The update is expected to take 12 months to complete.
