Shane Burton Day

Day, Shane Pic2
04/04/1973 01/12/2015

Shane was born April 4, 1973, in WaKeeney, to Burton “Butch” and Melody (Barger) Day. Shane came into the world with special needs but still led a full life. He lived in WaKeeney, Hays, Atwood and Hill City, but his last stop was in Eudora under the loving watch and care of Chris Price who Shane adored. Shane passed away January 12, 2015.

He loved the Dukes Of Hazzard and Walker, Texas Ranger and could watch the reruns for hours. He loved watching Races, and watching and playing Football and the many cats and dogs he encountered along the way. He had numerous stuffed Bears and Tigers and couldn’t go to bed until he told them all goodnight. Shane never met a stranger and smiled at everyone he saw and everyone he met commented on that wonderful smile.

Shane was only on this earth 41 short years, but he brought joy to all who knew and loved him.

Shane is preceded in death by his grandfather Russell Barger; his uncle Doug Zeman; and his Aunt Russella “Rusty” Zeman. We are certain he is with them now and talking up a storm.

He is survived by his mom, Melody and his stepdad Allen Gau; his father, Burton “Butch” Day; his grandmother, Louise Barger; his many aunts and uncles, Mike and Patricia Barger, Gary and Patty Folk, Betty Weatherholt, Dave and Holly Bittel; and cousins Steffanie and Glen Barger, Richard and Cyndi Miller, Mischel and William Zeman, Stacy and Dustin Bittel, Kurston and Coltin Ghumn, Caitlin, Logan, and Elizabeth Miller; and several young third cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 17, 2015 at WaKeeney United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the WaKeeney City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to DSNWK of Hays or Special Olympics. Checks made to the organization may be sent in care of Schmitt Funeral Home, 336 North 12th, WaKeeney, KS 67672.
