SALINA – Authorities do not believe the death of a man whose body was found lying on the ice in Mulberry Creek Thursday evening is foul play.
Saline County Sheriff Glen Kochanowski said Friday morning that an autopsy will determine the cause of death.
The body of the man believed to be between 45-60 years of age was found about 100 yard east of a closed bridge in the 1900 block of North 5th Street by a man walking along the road with his daughter.
Individuals who live in the remote area in north Salina, just south of I-70, told officers that the description of the man’s clothing would indicate he might have been homeless.
Due to the ice on the creek and the safety of emergency crews, the body was not moved until after daylight Friday.
The creek bank is steep and the ice was not solid.
Sheriff Kochanowski said he hopes a search of the area will locate where the man had been staying and perhaps something to identify him.
