Fort Hays State University President Mirta Martin has appointed a task force at FHSU to “re-engineer” operations. The task force is comprised of faculty members who aren’t in an administrative role.

“I charged them to look at everything that we do and to create a system that would tap into the talent of our faculty and staff members that would streamline our processes and overall, make us more effective,” Martin said.

Martin says the task force won’t look to cut jobs, but could actually look to create ones that don’t exist that are vital to the operation of the university.

“It’s about creating the synergies all of our departments so that we have a sum total of energies and minds of looking at the world differently, but still have the same goals in mind,” Martin said.

One of the most unique features of the task force, which was launched in October, is that it does not feature a dean, director or any kind of administrator. Martin relied on those people to appoint somebody for the task force.

“It has been a bottom-up approach, and that’s my philosophy about leadership,” she said. “It’s about bottom-up information for top-down support.”

The task force has sent out surveys and continues to solicit information from faculty and staff.
