Principal Nancy Harman of O’Loughlin Elementary school will retire effective June 1, 2015.
USD 489 Board Clerk Sarah Wasinger said Harmon will officially announce her retirement the USD #489 Board of Education at Monday night’s Board of Education meeting at Rockwell Administration Center, 323 w. 12th.
Harman has been the principal at O’Loughlin since 1998. She received her Master’s Degree in Education Administration from Fort Hays State University in 1993.
“Nancy has accomplished so much during her time in USD #489, said Superintendent Dean Katt. ” O’Loughlin Elementary has been a flagship school for our district for many years because of Nancy’s hard work and dedication. We will be sad to see her go but wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors,”
“I have enjoyed my years of employment in USD 489. It has been a privilege to work with some of the most dedicated, talented educators in our state. I am grateful for the amazing opportunities I have experienced during my tenure at O’Loughlin Elementary School,” Harmon said “Opportunities for professional development, collaboration with outstanding educators in our district and support and encouragement from USD 489 leadership have been instrumental in the wonderful opportunities I have experienced throughout my career.”
Harman added, “It has been a privilege to work with the students and parents at O’Loughlin Elementary. O’Loughlin teachers and staff are the Best of the Best. I thank them all for their dedication and commitment to our students and wish them continued success in the future.”
Harman and O’Loughlin have achieved some great successes, including:

– 1998-2009 15 consecutive years achieving the Standard of Excellence, Kansas
– 1996-1997 Blue ribbon Award from the U.S. Department of Education
– 1995 Redbook Recipient for America’s Best School Award
