LaVonne Weigel, WaKeeney, has been named the newest Covenant Builders Hometown Hero.
Weigel was nominated for her volunteer work in areas ranging from health care to church.
According to her nomination: “LaVonne Weigel has the biggest heart and is always giving her time and talents to others. She is involved in the Catholic Church as a teacher, Eucharistic minister and rosary leader. She also serves on the Walk-a-Thon for Health team with all funds raised staying in Gove and Trego County for cancer patients.
“She is the first to step up and help others in need by ramrodding benefit dinners to help patients with medical expenses, fundraising for the VFW, and serving on the Lutheran Home and Trego County Hospital Advisory Boards. She is known and loved by many and would literally give you the shirt off her back if you needed it.”
Weigel will be honored between games at Gross Memorial Coliseum at Thursday’s Fort Hays State University basketball contests against South Dakota School of Mines. The women’s game tips off at 5:30 p.m., with the men’s game scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
