Applications for grants from the Heartland Area Action Fund and Healthy Living Fund can also be found on the Heartland website and will be accepted until March 9.

“The generous grant from the Dane G. Hansen Foundation represents an opportunity for our communities to address a variety of projects. Individual grants will be limited to $5,000 or less in order to maximize the grant’s reach. Emphasis will be on programs or projects that include community involvement and volunteerism,” said Heartland Community Foundation Board Chairman Brandon Prough.

“Community Foundations are designed to work with donors to encourage philanthropic giving,” said Betsy Wearing, president of the Greater Salina Community Foundation. “We are so pleased that the Hansen Foundation recognizes the work of community foundations and chose to partner with GSCF to provide these grants supporting rural communities.” The Heartland Community Foundation is an affiliate of the GSCF.

Gary Poore, a trustee of the Dane G. Hansen Foundation commented, “We’re very pleased to start this pilot project as a part of our overall mission to improve the quality of life for the citizens of northwest Kansas. We think that Community Foundations are in a unique position to find and fund projects that will have the most impact in their local areas.”

The Dane G. Hansen Foundation was established in 1965, with the primary goal of making the communities of northwest Kansas better places to live. The Dane G. Hansen Foundation was established through a generous estate gift from Dane G. Hansen, an exceptional Kansas citizen who had a personal interest in promoting education and helping young people to succeed.
