JUNCTION CITY – Law enforcement authorities in Junction City are investigating individuals from Chicago that targeted the Junction City area in a credit card – check forgery scheme.

Junction City Police Chief Tim Brown said his officers arrested four people from Chicago over the past two weeks.

These individuals allegedly used stolen credit card numbers and forged checks to obtain cash advances at businesses and banks.

“We believe that there are more of the individuals involved in this ring. They are obtaining stolen credit card numbers, placing those credit card numbers on prepaid debit cards, and going to different businesses to obtain cash advances from $400 to several thousand dollars,” said Brown.

In addition to the four arrests, several thousand dollars in cash has been confiscated.

“We’re looking for additional suspects and we urge businesses and banks to watch for individuals, and be vigilant,” said Brown.

“In some cases it would be just as simple as asking for identification when someone comes in and presents a card for a cash advances or asks to cash a check,” Brown reminded. “Businesses need to examine the cards and checks closely.”
