Hays girls lose in overtime

Both Hays and Wichita Southeast came into the 7th place game of the Mid-America Classic looking to break losing streaks. Both teams would have to wait until overtime to decide the outcome.

Hays led by eight points in the second quarter at 18-10. Southeast rallied to get within two at half time 23-21.

Highlights:

 

Hays again built their lead to seven at 28-21 to open up the second half. Southeast then went on a 12-3 run grabbing a 33-31 lead. Hays took the lead back in the final 35 seconds of the third quarter 34-33.

Hays trailed in the fourth quarter by three, but got baskets from Nicole Dinkel and Talyn Kleweno to take the lead. With the game tied at 47 each team missed the front end of one and ones to send the game into overtime.

Hays never led in the overtime period. Hays trailed 57-55 with nine seconds remaining when the Indians had a three pointer blocked and the offensive rebound and put back crawl off the rim.

Hays falls to 3-10 on the year. Southeast is 2-11.

The Indians get a double-double from Maddie Keller with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Audra Schmeidler scored 12 and Mattison Schlaefli added 11. Southeast’s Alex Arline scored a game high 23.

Hays is back in action Tuesday at Salina South.
