No. 6 Lady Tigers rally past Washburn for 19th straight win

The sixth-ranked Fort Hays State outscore Washburn 10-2 over the final five minutes as they rally for a 62-58 win Saturday night at Lee Arena. The Lady Tigers win their 19th straight and snap an 11-game losing streak to Washburn in Topeka dating back to early December of 1994. FHSU is now 20-1 and remains atop the MIAA at 12-0. Washburn falls 14-6 and 6-6 in the conference.

Nicola Kacperska hit a foul-line jumper with two minutes to play to break a 58-58 tie. Chelsea Mason then hit two free throws following a Beth Bohuslavsky steal with two seconds left to seal the win.

Game Highlights

 

The Lady Tigers hit just two of their first 12 shots and fell behind by seven but closed the half on a 15-4 lead to go up eight. FHSU hit just 2-of-12 shots to open the second half which allowed the Ichabods to tie the game 41-41.

Kate Lehman scored six straight to help lead the Lady Tigers comeback and finished with 21 points. Chelsea Mason added 12 and Jill Faxon 11. Nicola Kacperska scores eight while dishing out five assists.

The Lady Tigers shoot 39-percent from the floor but hit 7-of-12 from beyond the arc and were 9-of-14 from the free throw line (7-9 in second half). FHSU only turned the ball over five times and win despite being outrebounded by 19.
