Margaret M. “Margie” Bollig, 87, Hays, died Friday, March 20, 2015 at the Hays Good Samaritan Society.
She was born June 15, 1927 on the family farm South of Quinter, Kansas the daughter of William “Bill” and Bertha (Linenberger) Fahey. On June 24, 1947 she married Norbert Joseph Bollig in Ellis, Kansas. He died February 7, 2015.
She was a graduate of Quinter High School and graduated from Business College in Denver, CO. She worked at Travenol until their closing and was the State secretary-treasurer for the VFW Auxiliary.
She did bookwork for Hays Meal Site and Meals on Wheels for many years. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays and the Hays VFW Auxiliary. She was very active in the American Legion and VFW. She was an avid bingo player, loved reading, crocheting, golf, dancing and square dancing, polkas, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons, Robert “Bob” Bollig and wife JoAnn of Fairfax, Virginia, Mick Bollig and wife Suzanne of Hays, and Keith Bollig and wife Jennifer of Chicago, IL, three daughters, Sharon Pfeifer and husband Ken of Phoenix, AZ, Glenda Pfaff and husband Randy of Russell, and Rhonda Baker and husband Lyle of Hays, three brothers, Herbert Fahey and wife Barbara of Arvada, CO, Eugene Fahey of Henderson, CO, and Ron Fahey and wife Amy Finch of Green Valley, AZ, an uncle Eli Boucher of Kansas City, a daughter in law Josie Gallegos of Ft. Collins, CO, fifteen grandchildren, and nineteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Dennis Bollig, five brothers, Dave, Leo, Leonard, Pat, and Jerry Fahey, a sister Patty Gerstner, and a granddaughter Erica Rae Bollig.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays. Burial will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, WaKeeney, Kansas. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Tuesday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 Wednesday, all at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine. A VFW Auxiliary rosary will be at 6:00 followed by a parish vigil service at 6:30, both on Tuesday at the funeral home.
