At Monday’s USD 489 Board of Education meeting, March’s Best of the Best Awards were awarded to Reading Specialist JoAnn Jennings and Hays Middle School sixth-grader Greg Robinson.

Jennings, an 18-year district employee, consults with teachers on the best and most innovative ways to help students who are struggling with reading.

She was nominated by colleague Laura Gaughan, who described Jennings as someone who “loves research, loves to read and, most of all, loves our students.”

Robinson was nominated by HMS science teacher Ted Foster for going above and beyond to help others.

Robinson was unable to attend the meeting, but both he and Jennings were awarded a trophy and a $50 dining gift certificate paid for by USD 489 school board members.
