HUTCHINSON — A 30-year-old inmate at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility  was found guilty Wednesday on a charge of battery of a law enforcement officer for an incident last year at the prison.

Authorities say Douglas Anthony Kling attacked prison officer Jason Garcia.

During the trial, Kling chose to represent himself with the assistance of a public defender. After an hour and 15 minutes, the jury found him guilty.

Kling was convicted in Marshall County for attempted murder, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery, aggravated assault and criminal threat. He also has convictions for burglary in Nemaha County.

He is not eligible for parole until November 2040.

He will be sentenced in the new conviction on May 8.
