HOISINGTON –Authorities in Barton County say the victim in Wednesday’s fire was identified as Leroy Schartz, 62.

Officials say it appears Schartz was the lone resident of the house.

Upon investigation, there was enough evidence that Hoisington

Police Chief Kenton Doze brought in the State Fire Marshal’s office and the Kansas Bureau to work the suspicious fire.

Cause of the blaze is still undetermined.

HOISINGTON- The State Fire Marshal’s office and KBI are investigating a fatal fire in Hoisington.

According to Hoisington Police, fire crews responded to a fire at a residence at 522 East 5th just after 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Fire crews discovered the body of a male victim in the living room according to police.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

Name of the victim will not be released until a positive identification has been made according to the State Fire Marshal’s office.

Cause of the fire is still under investigation.
