Authorities make arrest in connection with school burglary

ABILENE – Law enforcement authorities in Dickinson County have made an arrest in connection with an alleged burglary at the Rural Center Elementary School in Abilene.

Dickinson County Sheriff Gareth Hoffman reported that just before midnight on Sunday, April 19, Deputies responded to an active alarm call at the school. When they arrived they found tools in a tree line just north of the school outside a broken window where it was believed entry was made. They also located a vehicle that had been backed up behind a building to the south of the school as though it was concealed.

Hoffman said that just after 3 a.m. Monday a man was located trying to approach the vehicle. He was identified as Frank J. Wilkins, 61, Abilene.

Deputies arrested Wilkins on suspicion of Burglary, Theft, and Criminal Damage to Property.

The School sustained several broken windows, but it is believed all property was recovered.
